A motor Yacht is a boat that sails only with mechanical propulsion, and therefore is generally faster than a sailboat.

The speed of each motor boat depends on how it was built. There are different type of boats, with one or more enginees and power.

For example, in the case of a cabin yacht, generally equipped with two engines, the speed depends on their power but also on the type of hull and the weight of the boat.

Indeed, there are two types of motor yacht: the planing and the displacement.

The first goes faster, because the hull was designed to have less friction with the water, the second is more stable in the sea, but goes slower.

This two different types of motor boats have also a different configuration of the interior spaces. The planing boat has less internal cubic volume, while the displacement boat, with the same boat length, has larger spaces.

Where to sail with a motor yacht

Where to go with a motor Yacht depends on the type of boat you charter and where is your departure base.

For example, if you charter a rubber dinghy you will not be able to sleep on board and you can get very close to the beaches because they have a little daught, in fact the charter base should be near to the place to visit.

On the other hand, if you charter a motor yacht with cabin, you will surely be able to sleep on board and the captain could take you to your favorite sites. In addition, you can visit various places in the area, even if you are several miles away from your port of embarkation. The descents to the beaches will be guaranteed by the tender, a small rubber dinghy supplied to large boats.

We must keep in mind that motor yachts, due to their power and speed, consume a lot of fuel (the cost of utilities are extra compared to the charter cost).

Some yachts, also in the Luxury category with very performing engines, have implemented systems to save diesel and energy, using hybrid propulsion and /or solar panels.

Motor boats with or without skipper

Rubber dinghies and some motor boats of limited length can be charter without a captain, and you can drive them yourself. In motor yachts of greater length, the captain is always provided and in some luxury boats, there is also the crew with a catering service.
